Finding niche keywords for content websites

Hello,
A person with a number of content niche sites can make money more easily because of the low competition of the main site keyword. Although a niche website will only make $1-$2 a day, someone can make 20 of these niche websites and make a profit. What are some tools that can be used to find out competition for certain keywords and to see how much people bid for that certain keyword?

To find competition, I prefer to use Niche' Bot and sometimes the DigitalPoint Keyword Suggestion Tool.

You could go directly to WordTracker or Overture, but I am not so fond of their user interfaces.

To get a rough idea of bid prices, I just go to AdWords and go far enough through the signup process to get it to quote me suggested prices for buying AdWords.

I think Overture or whatever Yahoo! is calling it now has a free keyword tool. I've been meaning to check it out, but haven't yet.

On average, does Yahoo's CPC prgram pay more than Google's CPC ad program? I've been using Google, but I haven't really thought about trying out another affiliate program.

I don't think so. But I've been hearing good things about Chitika. www.chitika.com It lists products from shopping.com. Good for certain kinds of websites.

I like nichebot.com as well, great tool.

I use domainsbot.com to find myself some domain names if there are none available!

Chitika has gone downhill due to their auditing process - they are taking up to 90% of peoples earnings away!

Yahoo is paying more per click, but because the ads are significantly less relevant, my earnings with YPN (Yahoo Publisher Network) were much less than my earnings with AdSense.

This should improve as Yahoo signs on more advertisers.

So, with Yahoo's affiliate program, the worth of the click is higher, but the rate of clicks is low due to the not-so-accurate contextual ads? What is everybody's opinions on niche content websites? I have a few ideas, but, I'm confused on executing them. My niche topics seem to be one-pagers and not something that a whole site can be dedicated around.

Are they really? That's ridiculous. I've been planning to start using it on a blog to see how it went, but maybe I'll pass. That's too bad!

I have a bunch of niche' websites, such as GSM Security, SAN Security, and Enterprise Storage Management.

They do not perform nearly as well in Google as my mega sites like this one. The niche' web sites seem to do better in MSN -- but who cares about MSN?

It has to be a very compelling page to deserve its own web site!

I have one big site up in a saturated market, and I've learned my lesson, the market really is very competitive. I'm going to attempt to build 8-10 niche websites and see how they fare. How many articles are recommended for a niche site? I'm thinking that 50-60 is overkill and maybe start 10 articles and add one more article every week or so?

I can only write about four articles a day, so my sites tend to be either very small or very old.

And four articles is a very productive day!
