I think Dreamweaver is still the best for those "DIY" kind of of designers. I know there are some who do all the coding themselves bu that seems really tedious to me!

I'll get grief for this but... I still use Frontpage now and then.

If you need an extensive tool for web editing, then you should look into Microsofts new free line of Express Edition products. They have a VERY powerful tool that is named: Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005. Google it, it is well worth it. This is the best tool for creating and editing websites I have EVER seen. It has the abillity to create and use databases without you even having to do anything. You can have a login feature, photo album, guestbook, downloads section, contact forms, uploads, add different content such as forms, sql data, etc. IT ROCKS DA BLOCK PPLZ!!

Good Ole..Notepad does fine 4 me. I've been designing sites for almost 14 + years now and have always used "Notepad". Take a little more time !!!

I have used it a couple of times and I think Dreamweaver is a great tool. Especially if you're going to be designing a large web site, it will take tons of time out of it.

That said, I still use notepad to design my sites. That not because I prefer it to Dreamweaver. It is just because thats that's the way I learned to design pages, and trying to break that habit is not easy. I keep telling myself one day I'll sit down and get very comfortable with working in Dreamweaver, but that never happens.

But if you can get it and learn it, go for it.

You know, I have never bothered to learn Dreamweaver. It is a bit of a dud I think. Too expensive and not nearly as interactive

If you want a "hands-on" approach to coding, your regular Notepad is the way to go. Such programs like Dreamweaver are definitely appealing to most coders though. I personally use Notepad because I like to be in control. With a program like Dreamweaver, it does most of the work for you.

I have used Dreamweaver in the past (when I first started web design) and I found quite a few coding inconsistencies and the web pages were never 1.0 compliant. If I then tried editing the HTML file with Notepad, it was extremely easy to break something because of the way Dreamweaver had done the coding. (I used WYSIWYG for a while when I first started)
