Just a lil something for your Linux lovers.
Is Palm creating its own Linux-based OS?
OK, let's start this blurb off by making it clear to readers that Palm is now just a hardware company that brands devices and resells them (the Treo 650, Treo 700w, LifeDrive, Tx, Z22) and PalmSource is the software company purchased by ACCESS.
We know PalmSource is working on the ACCESS Linux Platform (ALP), which should be out in 2007.
PalmInfocenter just posted a rumor about a Linux OS created by Palm that may be designed for its feature phones. Apparently, Palm has been posting jobs for Linux software people. Yet, it may just want these types of people in house to make sure the ALP runs on the company's hardware and also allows Palm to make custom tweaks as it did with the Treo 650 and Treo 700w.
