Running off live CD

I'm running Ubuntu off cd. Once my laptop is booted can I take the cd out or will that make it crash. I'm not ready to load Linux on my harddrive. Thanks.

Hey!
I take that back!
the Ubuntu Live CD will not let you eject the cd from the drive, you can do this wit other distros, as they load a virtual system on your harddrive, but I guess the ubuntu lcd does not do this, thats whys is so much slower than other live cds.

Hey Slush,

Yeah, I think it will because the OS has to refer back to something to run its processes and if it's not on the hard drive, where's it going to look?

Lyte

EDIT: Opp... I didn't see Oulzac's post when I hit Submit. I would take his advise first as he's more familar with Linux than I am!

Just remember your proformance with a LiveCD is nothing compared to when it is loaded on the harddrive.

Sometimes you have to learn through trial and error. Mine usually ends in error

Hey, works for me too! That's how I learned (loosely termed) how to do a lot of stuff! I just throw something together and see what results! If I don't like it, I throw something different together!
