Bonds Ties the Babe With Home Run No. 714

I don't know how y'all feel 'bout this but I'm not all that impressed with this new record. I know he's not been found out (for a fact) that he's taken performance enhancing drugs but.... there's sure a whole lotta rumors. Anyway.... what do y'all think???

personaly I could care less, bonds is not the babe, and no one in todays game could ever accomplish what ruth did in his day.

For starters, the babe pitched, doesnt sound like much, but he played both sides of the inning for most of the game, these guys dont do that today. Also in his day, they did not play a 162 games a season, they only played 144 games. Also, the babe lead most all stats every season, not just homeruns, he was always in the top 2 or 3 if not 1 for base on balls, batting average, hits, on base percentage, runs, and slugging average, and those dont even include his pitching stats.

And heres the kicker, the babe was "fat", overweight, out of shape, old drunkin man, he was by no means an "athlete".

as for bonds, whatever, i lost all respect for baseball years ago, and he can hit 1200 home runs for all i care, it doesnt mean anything in todays day and age.
its like when people talk about kobe bryant scoring 82 points in one game, I say, who cares, did you know wilt chamberlin scored 100 in a game, and most people say, well hes not kobe, hes not as talented, really, hmm, 82, including 3 point shots, with a 12min qrt clock, or 100, no 3 points shots, and 10 min qrts, they are completly differant.

differant erras, differant rules, and much less emphasis on the game itself these days and more on the "stars" / athletes.

but enough of my ramblings,

oulzac,

You're right on so many levels! It's not just baseball either. It seems (nearly) all the professional sports today have lost their luster! There was a time when these games were games and people played or watched for the simple joy of it. Today, sports have become so commercialized and money driven they're not really "games" any longer. It's become all business and the bottom line.

I would rather see Bonds injured and out of baseball b4 he beats hanks record. I am a baseball fanatic somewhat. I have been playin' yearround for about 12 years now. Bonds used to be some skinny fast black guy who then found a needle and became a slugger. I know they haven't found anything on him and some say these allegations have ruined his rep. What rep? The guy took some sort of preformance enchancement, then lied about it in court, and is now being questioned again. He has had tons of warning track shots this year. 1 more roid' and he'd be close to Hank. I have lost all respect for Bonds, I used to like his playing style when he was little and all natural. Right now he isn't an assest to the Giants. He has made errors, can't hardly run to first, is strung out on pain med. because of his knee. They make a DL for a reason. Hank had the same controversy over his record because of race. Race is unchangeable, the use of steriods is. I'm tired of typin...u get the pt.

Dang Bonds. He got the big 715, I don't think it matters too much. Nobody I have talked to feels that is was made the same way as the babe or Hank. O well, lot of controversy on this one.
