OMG... I finally have electricity again...

You won't believe it... I was one of those poor saps who has been without electricity since Wednesday!!! We had this big o' storm and it knocked out the electricity to 500K people in the Dallas/Fort Worth area!! My block was just fixed today!!!

Okay, I get the fact that Oncor ($#!!&%) has to help the big sections first but does that mean the couldn't get one or two guys out to our area to hook us up too?!

This is from Oncor's Press release page...

Oncor Repairs 90 Percent of Power Outages
DALLAS -

Oncor has restored service to more than 90 percent of the 500,000 consumers who lost power following storms Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon. As of Saturday morning, less than 40,000 homes and businesses were still without power.

On Saturday there will be more than 3,600 people working throughout the day. The majority of outages are in Tarrant and Dallas counties.

This ranks as one of Oncor’s top three worst storms of all-time. As Oncor crews and contractors worked to restore power to customers affected Wednesday night, other homes and businesses lost power from the subsequent waves of lightening that followed Thursday.

“The men and women have made a great deal of progress in the past two days and nights to restore power in a challenging environment. The high temperatures and humidity made it difficult both for our crews and the people we serve,” said Jim Greer, Senior Vice President. “Unfortunately, it’s always the last 10 percent of repairs that is the most difficult and time consuming. Still, we’re optimistic restoration will be essentially complete by Sunday morning.”

Greer added that because today’s weather forecast calls for high temperatures and high humidity, those who remain without power should seek alternative shelter. If you are still without power please call the outage reporting number on your electric bill.

They brought in people from all over (Oklahoma) to help out and they couldn't spare one or two guys to help us?! I don't know... I just don't think working on one area means you can't work on another!

Hey...that sucks, but I'm glad you weathered the storm okay, as things could have been worse.

Who knows what their priorities are when it come to repairing these things. I'm sure it must come down to numbers.

We had a very small earthquake last week, which always makes me think about what I would do in a full blown emergency. How prepared am I? Well, living on an island makes things worse, so being prepared is essential. I do have a kit, but I'm quite sure it would only last me 4-5 days.

I realized we weren't as prepared as we should be. It was a bit of a scramble to find the flashlights and figure out which candles we were going to use. And when we heard the tornado sirens I didn't have a working battery powered radio. That would have been helpful!

Well...if you learn from your mistakes, you'll be much more prepared in the future.

Glad you and your family are all ok!!
