Well, where to begin.
When I was a kid, I was a computer geek. I knew it all, I was on top of it all, I could do anything with a computer. This was back when you had to know DOS commands to use your machine.
I stayed pretty much on top of things into my adult years, even Beta tested Windows 98. Then I moved from the East Coast to the Midwest.
I ran into some hard times back then, money was tight, but I was making do. I had always had a top of the line computer, but due to financial issues at that time, I was still using a 486/33 when the Pentiums were out.
Then disaster struck. While I made breakfast, a friend visiting asked if he could use the computer. Next thing I knew he was saying: "John....is smoke supposed to be coming out of this thing?" Of course we turned it off immediately, but it was too late. The Beast never worked again.
Not having the money to replace or even repair it I entered my own dark ages. It was 3 years before I owned a computer again. It that time computing changed ALOT, Windows XP was out, the Internet was booming, Gaming visuals were incredible, and I, a former "Elite" of computing, was lost.
Since then I have never seemed to catch up. I run into problems, things I once could have fixed in an instant, and now I don't even know where to look to start trying to fix it. I managed to network several machines in my house, but only after using a helper program to manage it, and I can run World of Warcraft (an addiction of mine) even install an add-on program occassionally without issue. But I really miss the days when I was a know it all geek.
So when I stumbled upon this forum I HAD to join. I am hoping that I will be able to address various issues on my machine by discussing them and learning how to fix them myself.
I hope that I dont end up becoming tiresome to everyone too quickly.
