That's very interesting! They have two versions of the script running, http://www.txtdrop.com/ and http://www.txtdrop.net/.

http://www.txtdrop.net/ much like our own http://www.tech-faq.com/free-sms.shtml, but http://www.txtdrop.com is a bit different.

The with our tool and with their .net version, you manually select the carrier. It looks like their .com version tries to select the carrier for you based upon the telephone number you enter.

Local Number Portability will screw that all up, but it's still a cool feature.

That's actually backwards. These scripts usually upport any carrier that supports an e-mail -> SMS interface.

It's the Malaysian carriers which do not support the e-mail -> SMS gateway.

If you can find that your Malaysian carrier supports receiving SMS via e-mail, I am sure that the script vendors will add your carrier.

When you recieve a txt message from an AOL user, that user is assigned a number much like a phone number just shorter. You can see this number when you look at who sent you the text message. Just save that number into your contacts so u can use it later. What I did when I wanted to send an Instant message a friend on AOL from my phone is I just sent a txt message to that number (or contact if you saved it) and it would IM them even if they had not IM'ed me in two days, as long as they were online. When they wanted to IM me they just added my phone as a contact. The username is just the phone number formatted like: +10001234567. I haven't used it for a while so they could have changed they way things are done, but it's worth a try. I also think there is an option to add a new phone contact
