How-to use GSM mobile set as a modem in EDGE service ?

Well , I am planning to use EDGE service using my GSM mobile set provided by one of the most popular GSM service in my country. For that , I have logged in their site and found almost every necessary information but one.

In their tutorial i found some lines like this ..

Code:
Step 1: Install your Handset as a dial-up modem

    * Install appropriate software for your handset (PC Suite for Nokia).

    * Enable your handset for IR, Bluetooth or Cable connectivity

[For Nokia 6020 go to Menu then Settings > Connectivity > Select Infrared]

    * Then connect your handset with pc using IR, Bluetooth or Cable.
After this , they placed some screenshots of installing devices. Those screed shots are for installing IRDA. And from that , they have discussed all things that related with IRDA.

Now , My question is , is this only valid for IRDA only or I can use any one of their stated interfacing system [cable, bluetooth or IRDA] ? Any hard and fast rule here ?

I guess , I have a data cable . So , If data cable is allowed , then it will be better for me !

Looking forward to hear from you !

regards

You can choose IRDA, Bluetooth or Cable -- depending upon what is support by your phone.

What model of mobile telephone do you have?

If you have the cable in your hand, then the cable will probably work.

One more thing . So far I know , IR has a low data transfer rate , neither blue tooth is that fast. If my cell phone works as a modem and then modem transfers data to my computer using IRDA , then isn't that data transfer rate is too slow ?

I mean suppose , I am getting 256 kbps through my modem , but can my modem transfer that speed of data using irda ?

IRDA can go up to 16Mb/sec; Bluetooth can only do 1Mb/sec.

You will always be limited by the speed of the slowest link.

I prefer the cable, because it conserves battery power.
