Certification

Has anyone here received their A+ certification? I took the test a couple of years ago and got it but I'm sure it wouldn't even be considered since when I took it, it was about DOS and Windows 95 (for the software portion). So far it has yet to help me receive a JOB although I worked with hardware for almost 2 years.

Curious to know what others think about A+ and other CompTIA certifications.

Never paid to take the tests to get the little pieces of paper, but I have taken many of the tests and passed them. A+ as I recall needs be retaken to update your cert every so many years. same with security+ linux+ and some of the sun java and other programing certs.

Ahhh, I should consider updating my A+ but just don't feel a need too right now. You've taken the practice tests then?

yes, I bought all the books and took the trail run tests at the very end, and had one of my professors at my old school get them graded just for kicks, took me quite a bit of convincing before he would though.

Which testing software did you take? The ones that came with my books dont seem very good. I've heard transcend is good though.

I'm gonna try to A+, Linux, and a couple others in the near future. Have already started studying for them.

Linux is a good one to have I think. I started studying for it but then put it on the back burner for Network+ and Security+ because I'm taking classes for them. I intend on getting Linux in the near future and possibly the LPIC cert.

A+ is hardware and an OS. At the time I took it, it was Hardware +DOS/Windows 95. Now, it is probably Hardware/XP or perhaps 2000/XP. This certification is very easy and consists of two tests. It took me about 10 minutes per test but it was $128 per test too!

I got it a long time ago. 2000 or maybe 2001. Might have been 1999. Not real sure, like I said it was a long time ago. It wasn't that bad, but I was also working as a bench tech for a few years at the time. I think this was right before the adaptive style test. It was a lot easier then any Novell test, that is for sure.

If the item is incorrect, the next question will be less difficult. If the item is correct, the next question will be more difficult. The adaptive methodology for how the selection of the items that will be presented depend on the item response theory (IRT) to adjust items and estimate the candidate's ability to answer the items. The adaptive test format may reduce the number of questions and shorten the test without affecting the reliability of the test.
