MySpace News is for real.
A leaked document from MySpace's parent company, Fox Interactive Media, confirms the existence of its rumored Digg-style news aggregation portal.
The leaked sales document outlines the structure and taxonomy of the forthcoming site, and includes screenshots of the site, but gives no details about when the portal will launch.
MySpace News will automatically collect news items from various news sites and blogs. MySpace users will then be able to discuss and rate each story on the site, and the stories will change position on the page based on popularity. The portal is rumored to launch during the second quarter of 2007.
When questioned about the site Tuesday morning, a MySpace representative offered no comment. An investigation of our own last week led us to a job listing for a software engineer in Fox Interactive's FIM Labs/Newroo Project division, implying that the company is hiring staff to build the code to power the portal's back end. Fox Interactive Media purchased Newroo, a news aggregation company, in 2006.
