Hey Byte,

First, are you going wireless or cable with your LAN?

I take it you already have a router of some kind. Give us what you have and I can help you get setup.

Hey Dr,
Brands play an important part in the setup and costumer support if it doesn't work for you the first time:p . It took me over 10 hrs to get my dads friend wireless throughout his house. Let us know what you have and we'll try to give the right/best answers we can.

I hate when people ask questions and then don't follow up. :p

here is what i suggest

i would get a linksis router if i were you, but that is just my prefrance since that is what i work with the most. net gear and belkin are good brands as well. i would sugest that you get a wireless routher so that it leaves you the possibility to go wireless in the futurem but you can turn off the wireless feature for now. what brand you get is not that big of a deal. also, the operating system that you are using is not a big deal as of yet either. your os will com in to play when you are trying to hook everything up. win 98. works a little differant than win xp.

what do yo plan on doing with this network. are you wanting to just let mutiple computers use the internet, or do you want to be able access 1 computer from another , or mabe just shalre the internet and a printer. second thing we need to know is if you have cable internet, dsl, or fios. not because what you have is important, but if you do not have a house phone then you can use the existing phone wireing in your house for the wires and do not need to run cat 5. if you can do that it is cheaper.

just let us know what you have and what you are planing on doing
