Ah, I worked with a setup like that in Colombia.

Change "Call up your ISP and yell at them" to "Call up your vendor and yell at them" and it will be the same.

Call up whoever is blocking your ports!

Unix shells that are far away from you can be slow to use, due to latency.

Because of that, you should probably talk to people at BDLUG to see what they recommend.

Tunneling is just sending one protocol through another protocol.

Can I help you ?

well , First of all , good to see you trying to connect at dal.net. I have been there for e long time.

Well, if your dns isnt ok. Then first try this things. copy the following line , paste it to your mIRC window [or other irc client you use] and press enter.

Code:
/server 202.91.34.9
or

Code:
/server 149.9.1.16
These 2 are trusted Dal.net servers serbing for years.Specially first one is the hostspeed server which I have never found down in years !

If it works for you , then ok ! if dont , then let me know , I will think !

ANOTHER SUGGESTION : IF YOUR PROBLEM canbe solved my previous tricks , then just do these following steps. Its trivial method ! Even I dont know the reason!!

Code:
      1. In window , Open Run. [Start menu - > Run]
          2. Type services.msc and press enter
          3. Right click on the DNS service and make it stop!
          4. Then try with /server irc.dal.net or /server hotspeed.dal.net or
              /server rumble.dal.net or /server broadway.dal.net
See what will happen !!

Squid isn't a firewall, it's a web proxy which is designed to be used as a cache.

They shouldn't be sending non-HTTP traffic through Squid.

One bit of terminology: mIRC is the client, not the server. You login from the client and to the server.

Squid should be receiving traffic on TCP port 80 (HTTP). Squid should not be receiving TCP port 6667 (IRC).

Squid should not be in the way of your IRC traffic.

If you can't telnet to irc.dal.net 6667, then there is something wrong with your ISP (or their reseller) and you really need to beat them mercilessly until they fix that.

Do you familiar with the term BNC or psyBNC ?

Its a different tool. You have a program named psybnc in a unix shell account. This psyBNC is connectd to irc server from that unix shell account. You have to just log on to that unix shell . And the most interesting part is , you can connect to that unix shell at any port. Like you can connect that unix shell at 31337 tcp , but that unix shell is connected to irc server in 6667 tcp.

You can buy it over internet . One site you can take a look - www.psybnc.net

or try to find someone who can give one Free. My Linux box is down for months! So , I cant give you one to use. I wish my linux box were up and I could give you one from compiled psyBNC.

A lot of people new to IRC seem to call it mIRC but that's just the most popular windows IRC client but there's a lot more available and most are a lot better...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_IRC_clients

I have one personal use for mIRC, it has a good script called Autoget which is great for queuing up a lot of downloads automatically, there are similar scripts for other clients but sometimes it's nice to have a graphical one.

Personally I'd recommend Irssi http://www.irssi.org/, it's command line based so there's no cheating and right clicking things to do things like you can on most graphical clients but you will probably learn a lot more about IRC that way. It's also perfect for running from shell, I used to be an IRC Network-wide Operator so it was important that I could access IRC while away from home, while I could easily have just logged in when I needed to from somewhere else, it's not convenient and I like to (and needed to be) be connected 24/7, so I just ran it at home on a Linux box and used SSH to connect to it remotely.

If you want a graphical client I'd recommend X-Chat, there's a Windows version of it as well.

X-Chat or any graphical client should be just as easy to learn as mIRC, Irssi would take a bit of getting used to but there's some really good tutorials on the Irssi homepage.

As for the previous post about SSL....it's just a way of secure connection, the reason I suggested it though is that firstly it's secure and secondly, it will use a different port. I don't think mIRC supports ssl by default but there might be a script or patch for it.

First of all , psyBNC has no deal with windows or unix in client side. let me explain it again to you.

You have a pc running on windows xp. Theres a server in internet running on unix. That server has a program running named psyBNC. That psyBNC is connected to irc server. All you have to do is , open your IRC client [say mIRC] , connect to that server running in unix. As that server is already connected to irc server , as soon as you connected to that unix server , you are actually connected to that irc server.

Now comes the Question Why I psyBNC can be a solution for you problem ?

Because , Your ISP has blocked tcp port 6667 at which generally irc servers work. So , you cant use 6667 and cant connect to that irc server. But in psyBNC you has a freedom. You can connect to that unix server at any port what ever you want [arbitary ports like 31337 !!]. No matter which port you are using to log on unix server , the matter is that unix server has 6667 port open and it can log in to irc server. So , psyBNC is just a medium !

thats why which OS your using , unix or windows doesnt matter.

can I make things clear to you ?

now come to your question.

1. Well , there are several shell sellers out in the market . famous one like Reversenet. you have to buy a shell , download psyBNC software package and have to install that. Then you have to configure it. Pretty disturbing ..huh !! I guess for begginers its cumbersome. So dont think to do this.

2. Already answeared. Still telling , all you have to do , connect to unix server unsig mIRC [or other cilent]. Like you are using the unix server named myunix.net . You r psyBNC is configured such as you have to log on to unix server at 1971 port. Then all you have to do , open mIRC , type

Code:
/server myunix.net 1971
Then you have to put your login password.

3.No Free psyBNC man !! Dont trsut annonymous psyBNC !! Remember , only a really good friend can give you this. But any rarely known person wont give you. If he gives you that means he has evil intentions like password hacking by not encrypting your password rather save it in plain text format in a text file.

you can buy one at www.psybnc.net

4. Previously described !

You are always welcome my friend ! Actually , I am an irc freak for years specially in dal.net . I know at first how tough it was for me first times when I has no irc knowledge and how I had to learn that. So anytime any question about irc , you can ask here. If possible , I would ans. them

Btw , all you said above is correct. Just to give you a final touch the total system is like this grphically

your pc -----------(connects at any port say 1971 via mIRC) unix server -------------connected to IRC server via psyBNC in 6667 port

Thanx eeeboy.
Do u know any unix server where I just wanna see whether I can connect the server through mirc. Bcoz I didnt see any clue during connected any server by mirc. U know I tried many ports, diff servers. n when mirc connect any server, it shows some information every time. If it can show any login info then I will buy a psybnc.

Thanx
