what laptop should i get?

My boss has ok'd to buy me a new laptop for work. I can't go overboard on the price so I am guessing around $800-$1500 for the price. I want something that has a good amount of power but I do not need the top of the line. It should be very reliable and have a good battery life. I would love it to be lite, doesn't have to be as lite as a feather.

I am thinking about looking at:
Thinkpads
HP
Toshibas
and possibly Dell but don't really want to.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to PC101

What exactly are you going to use the lap top for ? Graphics, editing videos ?? Also, are you by chance from Las Vegas, NV. ? PM me to let me know. I lived there (still do-part time), but I have many contacts there in the "techie" world.

I would stay away from Toshibas though. Do a google search for a laptop that fits your needs. At Dell, you can customize you laptop, but Dell is a little "pricey". You also want a laptop that can be "expanded". Look for 1 that has at least 512mb of RAM.

Glad to have you here @ PC101 !!

Definetely, consider Toshiba or IBM. I used to have those and I was fully satisfied. I'm quite ok with my current Siemens. I would not recommend Dell, in 3 years the Dell notebooks have mechanical problems - plastic is not very good there.

I have two laptops a Dell and an HP. I'd recommend getting a Dell. The HP isn't that great and has a lot of flaws.
