What's the most valuable thing your computer

does for you??

For example... the most valuable thing my computer does for me is connect me to the Internet.

What about you?

The internet is a big one.
I like making it do stuff most wouldn't think it would do and tasks that would take forever by hand. Always have to find a better way to use your comp to its fullest .

I would have to say the internet also...

Although my computer holds my most precious photos...I eat sleep and daydream about photos and digital cameras... (Only if I could afford a really good camera)

The internet allows me to connect to people all over the world, and make money at the same time.

I would have to say that the most important thing is that it connects me to the internet. I like using the internet for research to help me in my daily life: being able to look up a recipe for an exotic dish, or finding out the best way to train a dog in a particular way, it's SO much better than searching through books.

Not surprisingly most chose the Internet as the most valuable task for their computer. This then begs the question... What the heck did we do BEFORE the Internet!?

Had real jobs. No really I watched TV and hung out with friends, wait that hasn't changed. That's a good question, maybe it should be a topic of it's own.

If you're able to connect to the Internet, you can do almost everything else stated. Cool games? You could play some flash games online... still cool, eh? Latest softwares, download them... and pay for it, if not, crack it by google-ing cracks and keygens. Video and audio? You have the whole Internet, do you think you couldn't find one?

INTERNET! No Internet, no humanity (at least for the year 1995 upwards)

Sharing knowledge and communication

I think the sharing of knowledge and communication between others is the most valuable. I just recently read all about Geodesic Dome design (Buckminster Fuller) and wind generators. It isn't doing too much for my productivity at work however!

That was the original intent of the designers, sharing of resources, knowledge and information.
What some people have yet to discover is there are in fact two webs.
For ease of understanding they are commonly called the visible web and the
invisible or deep web.
The deep web is where you will find university, gov, and subject specific FTP's.
Since these are not subject to seo or pr or the other types of manipulation you
find searching the visible web, real information can be found.

Oooops, what was the question?
Oh yea, the internet for me as well.
Any subject you can conceive of has been researched sometime by someone,
and a record of this lays waiting to be found, added to, disputed, proven....
it just grows and grows.
That is what my computer does for me... teaches me, and at 52yo I still crave learning.

Peace,
Cyberian

Amen to that!

Although I think the act of writing with pen and paper has become a lost art since the invention of the computer and the internet.

Porn, of course, ... (Kidding ...)

Email. This is #1. I can't imagine living without email. I can't really work without email. Internet, i.e., the web, is as important as email. I also can't really work without the web.

I voted other, because all of the above, minus the gaming one, my computer is NOT close to being able to run any good games.

Internet...it is my life, im on it all night, and i put most of my time into it, be it for a friend, for myself, for a forum, or any other of many reasons.

The awesome programs part...wow... i never knew so many programs existed for windows until i started searching, they have ones for everything. I love a lot of them, but you have to be careful of course.

Technically, internet and the programs are connected for me.

Firefox on one computer, Apache on the other.

People still use computers for other tasks other than getting on the internet? I am an internet junkie, I don't like games much, and I don't write too many letters. I like to communicate, and research, and try to be creative. I guess I use PSP 6.0 to make website graphics, but for the most part, the only applications that I use are registry mechanic, PC Pitstop Optimize, Diskeeper 10, Spybot S&D, and of course, Firefox.

The internet.
It allows me to make money, gather information, social stuff. Everything happens there. Even games, and stuff.
