I want to know a little more about C-Band or free to air

All right guys. I'm new to this, so take it easy.

Right off the bat, I was interested in C-band when I discovered that it was possible to gets all those great channels the expensive Dish Network and Direct tv provide for free, as long as you have that BUD and one time payment expensive FTA receiver.

So here are my questions

1.What is the reception like?
2.Do I have to keep moving the satellite around to receive international channels?
3.Is it possible to locate PPV (Pay Per View)
4. Can it receive HDTV reception?
5. Cable providers, satellite providers all have black out restriction when it comes to sporting events. So with C-Band there will be no problems with anything being blacked out?
6. So to continue question 5, I will be able to watch something like NFL Sunday ticket or MLB extra innings for free? (Well, at least watch say a Red Sox or Indians game from San Diego?
7.Will a this affect FM signals when you are listening to the radio?
8.Is there any upgrade of software required? If so, how often?
9. Does the FTA receiver come with a on screen channel guide?
10.Are there radio stations too?

Thanks guys. I appreciate your feedback.

FTA can be quite complex. Welcome to your new adventure.

Well, not quite.

There are lots of free to air channels, but everything you want to watch is not likely to be available for free.

Excellent. That's a nice advantage of the Big Ugly Dish.

Buy a satellite motor and forget about it.

Check what is offered by National Programming Service and Superstar.

Check with NPS or Superstar before you subscribe. (Sorry, not a sports viewer.)

Occasionally you will want to upgrade the software on your FTA receiver. Say, once a quarter or once a year. The people who upgrade frequently are usually doing so because they are doing something illegal.

That is a common feature of FTA receivers.

Thanks for taking the time to answer all my questions.

It's interesting that you brought that up, that not all channels are available.

But here's sort of a twist. One of my friends has an outdoor antenna and sometimes he can pick up The Weather Channel, TV land, and Game Show Network. Of course the picture quality of those channels for the most part is very grainy/snowy. But sometimes the reception isn't that bad. And then there are times when it comes out just black and white with an annoying buzzing sound. My question is how is it possible for an over the air outdoor antenna to pick this up? Is it feeding off/interfering with strong satellite feed/signals from other households?

And have you heard of anyone picking up something interesting in C-Band such as the above channels mentioned much clearer?

Where is he picking those channels up from? What is the frequency and what are the latitude and longitude?

Theoretically, he could be at the edge of the footprint. What are his latitude and longitude?

Your buddy should know, as he has managed to point his dish at that satellite and tune into that frequency.
