Driver

I have a pentium 3.

The problem is i dono what types of motherboard it is.

So how can i know it n download the chipster driver ?

I try to look at motherboard, but seems like nothing brand named.

Is it a must to install the chipset driver ?

But is still running although i didn't install it.

Another problem is when i plug in a pci card, the pc can't start at all.

It's only grey color in my monitor.

But everything alright when unplug it.

Helps needed.

You don't absolutely have to install a chipset driver. If Windows is working fine, don't worry about installing a special driver.

What PCI card are you plugging in that breaks your PC? Have you tried that card in a different slot? Have you tried that card in a different PC? Have you tried a different PCI card in your PC?

It looks like motherboard malfunction concerned with IRQ settings. I recommend you to upgrade your machine because it's no reason to repair these ancient devices.

Most times you will see a model number stamped on the board somewhere.

If you're on windows, download and install this:

http://www.lavalys.com/

There are demo versions on there, even the demos should tell you the hardware info you need (plus a LOT more).

So, you bought a computer without knowing what motherboard and chipset are in it? Let me guess, you don't know what RAM you've got? Harddrive? PSU? Fans? Not good, that should be a mistake you'll learn from. Next time you get a computer, consider building it yourself so that you know exactly what components are in it and they can be upgraded easily, also you'll save yourself a lot of money (about 50% in some cases).

Now, although you don't have to install a driver, you should....for everything. Windows XP is bad for this, it has generic built in drivers for almost everything, you should get the proper drivers from the manufacturer of your hardware, that way you'll be getting the most out of your hardware. Run everest, see what your hardware is and then go on the net to get proper drivers for your hardware, this includes things like cd drives and monitors, I think (but can't remember for sure) that Everest has a driver listing page in it, otherwise you can click on each device in windows device manager, anything that has a generic windows driver should be replaced if possible.
