What are Peripherals?

Peripherals are pieces of hardware that "live" outside your computer such as... Printers, Ext. (External) CD recorders, Web cams, Joysticks, Scanners, Digital Cameras, etc.

Three pieces of equipment that are NOT (typically) considered peripherals are your monitor, keyboard and mouse. These are required to operate your PC so they fall under hardware.
