If you have children and want to limit their use of the computer, Vista's offers Parental Controls to do just that. You can limit their access to the web, how long they can be on the computer, what games they may play and even what programs they may run.
Each child for which Parental Controls are to be set, a
standard user account must be established. And, your own account must be that of
Administrator.
You can set up Parental Controls for each standard user as follows... - Click the Start button -> click Control Panel -> select User Accounts -> click Set up Parental Controls. If an Administrator password has been set up, you'll be prompted for it here.
- Click on the standard user account for which you want to set Parental Controls... e.g Lil Billy, Junor, Jenny... then under Parental Controls click On.
- Once Parental Controls are turned on for your child's account, you can begin adjusting the individual settings that you want to control. Here's what you have to choose from...
- Web restrictions - Here you can make sure your child only visit age-appropriate and limit downloading. You can set up filters to limit allow or prevent specific content to be viewed.
- Time limits - Simply put, this limits just how long your child can be logged onto the computer. This will prevent them from being able to log on when they should be studying or or when they should be sleeping!

- Games - There's no telling what sort of "games" your child may stumble upon when browsing the web. Here you can control their access to games and limit their play time to only age-appropriate (and rated) games. If a game is not rated, you can block their ability to play such games.
- Programs - If there are any applications you don't want your children from running here's where you can prevent access.
