Yeah, Photoshop is a great piece of software but it's really just too expensive for the average user! And, a lot of younger people (under 18) are getting into web design and graphics... how are they going to pay for this thing?!

Also, those online ones are crazy. I don't understand how they can actually be as good as they are

Although I could never use one as my main editor.

There's also Paint.NET a free image and photo editing software for computers that run Windows. It features an nice user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools.
