Post Tutorial - Best FireFox Extensions

Article # 3

Written By: Dr911

Any "Fire-Fox" fans out there ?? Well, I went out on the 'Web" and did a little searching and experimenting. So here we go---------->

I have to say, Firefox is probably the best open source project out there right now (besides, well, GNU/Linux). Here is a small list of all the must have Firefox extensions.

(These are all for 1.5.0.* and up.)

*Mouse Gestures
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/39

The must have extension. Once installed, you can use gestures with your mouse (duh) to navigate the internet. Say I want to refresh the page? You just hold down right click, drag straight down, the straight up, and let go. And REFRESHED! There's plenty of other gestures too, such as back, for wards, new tab, zoom in on a picture. The most common ones can be found Here.

*Foxytunes
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/219

This one is great for you audiophiles out there. It is a toolbar that goes right in some free space above your address bar, or down near your status bar. Basically, It's a bunch of shortcut buttons to play/pause, fast forwards, skip ahead a track, etc. It works with just about all the major (and minor) media players. It's great if you don't like to switch back and forth between screens to change the music. It's pretty straight forwards to get it to recognize your player, You click the "orange music note on the toolbar >player>select" to choose your player!

*Greasemonkey
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748

This is great if you like to change the way you interact with websites you frequently visit. Basically, you use it to install user scripts to change the behavior of lots of different websites. Here, you can find literally HUNDREDS of scripts for HUNDREDS of popular websites, and if you get bored, you can always make your own! Here is a particularly useful script that allows you to directly add to and edit the .css (custom style sheets) for any website. It's great if a cool website you frequent has a really ugly color scheme or something.

*Gmail Manager
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1320

Here's one for all you people with Gmail accounts. This is an extension that adds a little toolbar in the lower right corner of your FireFox window that automatically checks for new Gmail and links you right to them. I love it. There are also some toolbars out there for other email services.

That's all for now, you can find hundreds of more extensions Here:https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/
along with plug ins, themes and search engines! Now go out there and tear up that "web".

Hmm... I think I'm going to give the GreaseMonkey one a try when I get home!
