Vista - Speed up Vista Bootup - Bypass Unused Hardware

each time you switch your computer on all the hardware you have attached must be detected and initialized by the BIOS. Logically then, the more hardware you have the longer it's going to take to boot up. SO... if there are devices/hardware attached which you don't use or need on a regular basis you can disable them and improve your boot up time!

Go to Start --> Control Panel --> Device Manager. Here you'll find all the devices you have installed on your PC. From here you can select and disable any device you don't use. To do this simply right click on the device and select Disable.

Before you go crazy turn stuff off... be sure to leave those items in the Display and Systems categories alone! Those are critical to your system's operation.

Alternatively, items that typically go unused and can be disabled are:

Network adapters - motherboards usually have them integrated.

Modems - if you're using something else... e.g. broadband, FiOS. Or, if there's a modem integrated onto your mother board.

Multimedia devices - MP3 players, speakers, web cams, game ports, etc... etc.. if you're not using them, disable them!

Not a good idea to actually disable your video adapter

Also, bear in mind that this only boosts the Windows load time, none of these settings make a difference before you get the Vista load bar.

Oh and finally, depending on your motherboard, stuff like Bluetooth and USB can be disable for boot from the systems menu (BIOS CMOS).

Most motherboards provide an integrated network adapter. If the motherboard does not then no, I'd not recommend it either!

There's a a good simple steps to seep up your vista:

- Turning off Remote Differential Compression

- Turning off Windows Search Indexing

- Disabling Automatic Disk Defragmentation

- Shutting off Windows Hibernation
