each time you switch your computer on all the hardware you have attached must be detected and initialized by the BIOS. Logically then, the more hardware you have the longer it's going to take to boot up. SO... if there are devices/hardware attached which you don't use or need on a regular basis you can disable them and improve your boot up time!
Go to
Start -->
Control Panel -->
Device Manager. Here you'll find all the devices you have installed on your PC. From here you can select and disable any device you don't use. To do this simply right click on the device and select
Disable.
Before you go crazy turn stuff off...
be sure to leave those items in the Display and Systems categories alone! Those are critical to your system's operation.
Alternatively, items that typically go unused and can be disabled are:
Network adapters - motherboards usually have them integrated.
Modems - if you're using something else... e.g. broadband, FiOS. Or, if there's a modem integrated onto your mother board.
Multimedia devices - MP3 players, speakers, web cams, game ports, etc... etc.. if you're not using them, disable them!
