vBulletin Since we're running PC101 on vBulletin software I thought it logical to start a VB section.

Whats this?

This for just vbtalk? Maybe that spammer guy that had the pm box full thing can be discussed here?

Very true! This will be a section where we can discuss anything relating to vbulletin.

Speaking of that bozo... it appears we were not the only ones who were hit with what appears to be spam bots. I went over to VB.com in the hopes of getting answers. Here's what I found...

From Dr.H - http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=199140

From ab420 - http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=199317

From Lyte - http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=199401 - I posted this before I realized others were having the exact same problem!

I'll let y'all read the threads before I express my opinion. What do you think?

Lyte

Yeah... he was a bit of what I call an "A." I pissed him off but it sure wasn't intentional!

I posted here and Steve posted after me telling me not to. At the same time he had PM'd me about something else..... so not wanting to create a scene in the open forum, I responded to his post via PM with...

Ya know, don't want to sound like I'm after an argument but I'm totally confused by this post...

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showp...14&postcount=4

You took time out to tell me to stick to one thread but not to answer the question posed by abB420 in that same thread? Why not?

And why can't VB users share their experiences about a problem?? Doing so might enable us (or VB) to solve the problem! And if it's discovered that two, three ... or more people are having the same problem, isn't that information you'd want to know??

Lyte

To which he responded...

Jake already answered that thread and there is no reason for me to add anything else until the original thread starter responds.

Steve

To which I responded...

Again, I'm not meaning to be rude but, "They might have used.... " isn't an answer. It's a response but not an answer. It doesn't say for certianty why the problem occured and it doesn't offer the a remedy to what obviously is a problem.

And what is this support ticket I supposedly opened? The only place on VB.com where I've bought up this problem is here in the forum. I saw no place that said "Open Support Ticket." I thought that was the purpose of the forums.

To which he responded....

I have no idea what you mean by:

"Again, I'm not meaning to be rude but ... "They might have used.... " isn't an answer. It's a response but not an answer"

But I definitely do detect rudeness and hostility in this remark.

Please read my sig and respect my wishes to not contact me via PM again. I will respond on the forum and the support system asd appropriate.

Steve

At which point I was like "Whoa!" mate?! Needless to say I didn't PM him again. I did try and clarify myself here.

Communicating via the internet has some serious disadvantages because you can't hear or see the person speaking. You can't here the tone in their voice, you can't hear the volume with which they are speaking and you sure as heck can't see their facial expressions! For this reason, I tend to use a lot of emoticons and type more words than most so that I'm clearly understood! I knew I was about to disagree with a Mod but I tried to do so respectfully. I really didn't feel as though Jake answered the member's question! Had I known Steve would respond so defensively I would not have pursued the problem.

How is there confusion between what is an answer and what is a response? If you ask me, "What is 1 + 1?" and I say "It might be 2." Have I really answered your question!? I'm inclinded to think "No, I have not." Because the truth is the answer might be an infinate number of things! Anyway....

I find it really odd to that they (VB/Jelsoft/Steve... I don't know who's idea this is) suggest that I strip PC101 of its hacks ... take it down to just VB software.... and then they would look at it. Huh?! You mean there are no stripped down versions of VB 3.5.3 sitting on any computers over there?

Fortunately, the answer came from another user and was confirmed (in my mind) by different Mod. I'm glad we got to the bottom of this before I started dismantling our forum!

Oh... and please.... if ever I get snotty and defensive as a Mod... ugh... someone smack me!

WOW!
A mod is supposed to be helpful, kind, and curtious imo. If anyone was being rude it was him to begin with. Im not saying fight fire with fire, but dang. He told you you were out of line by posting in several threads, but never really told you why/how the answer got solved. I couldn't have held my composer with him. If anyone can talk crap, I'm right up there with um .

Basically he knew he was wrong. Didn't want to admit it, so he told you to stop pming him. Thats my opinion, I probly have a 1 sided approach since I know you, but still. Can we get the link to that whole thread instead of the one post? Maybe that mod will make a hack so you can only post in 1 thread at a time

And about the slapping thing, don't worry, I'll be the first to let you know

Yeah... wow is right!

I'm not stupid. I knew I was telling him something wasn't quite right so that's why I asked him in private! I was not trying to be an ass or rude or argumentative.... I was just trying to get someone... anyone to answer our bloody question! I know how to be civil, courtious, dipliomatic but it's sometimes hard to sound so online and to some people. They just can't "hear" it.

And geez... it wasn't like I was the only one with the problem. If you read all of the threads (see post #2 of this thread ) you'll see that there are at least 5 or 6 people wondering what the HECK is going on!

I don't understand why some people/companies won't say... "I don't know." Or... "Yeah, that is a problem and the fix is in the works." Based on the post of Marco it is apparent that being able to use ASCII/Unicode was proving to be a problem (for some). I mean, why would you create a restriction were this not the case?

And with three different threads, 6 - 7 different people complaining about the same issue... why did it take so long for someone to just say the fix is in VB3.6?! Was that so hard?! Shrug.... and ... oy vay! lol

UH, Yeah, I'm gonna have to ask you to keep this to one thread please Lyte.
As it seems now, you have multiple threads on multiple forums open for this, and this is just not productive, actually, its counter productive really, as we really don't want people to be able to help eachother in anyway shape or form, as thats just not good for me, today, or any thrusday for that matter.

Sorry, couldn't help myself. If that guy worked for me, on my board, and I saw him talking to customers like that, he would be gone at the end of his shift, thats totaly uncalled for.
And no it doesn't make sence to have a support forum, if you don't want people to help and discuss things with eachother, thats just benign.

I hear ya! You would think they would want members to work things out for themselves... whenever possible! That means less work for them! For example... when some suggested it was the hacks... logically... we should all compare notes and see which hacks we have in common!

I figure, he figured I was stirring up some kind of VB rebellion which he needed to squash asap.

Power to the people!
