HJT Full Tutorial

This tutorial is to teach you how to produce an HJT log to be evaluated by someone knowledgable in the subject

Well, HJT, better know as Hijack This, is a program that can change the way you maintain your computer. Its a freeware program developed to tell you every proccess running on your computer, and even those bound to run when you computer starts up.

i have blacked out the information in the log as not to confuse you.

Here are the steps to producing you HJT Log:

1.Downloading and Unzipping HJT
This is the easiest step. First go to http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip and download the zip file. Unzip it, if you dont know how to do that, im writing a tutorial, and put HJT where you want it. Then the fun begins, in the next step, i will teach you how to create a log.

2.Running HJT, to produce a log
Now, in this step, i will teach you how to use HJT. First double click on the HijackThis.exe file. A window should pop up that looks like this:

Click This button

Then a window should pop up like this:

Without all that black though. The after it is done scanning a Notepad window will popup. It will look like this:

Without the black of course. Then copy all the text in that file.. ALL that text, make a new thread on this site in the pc security, and hopefully the soon to be HJT section, and then someone will evaluate it
Warning:Please do not try to take action on any information in the log, unless you fully understand what you are doing.

All questions and comments are greatly appreciated

Good tutorial crafterz!

Definately, I would not recommend anyone trying to delete anything from their computer (based on a HJT log) unless they are 110% sure what they are doing! It wouldn't be hard to hose your computer by deleting something you shouldn't!

EDIT: Oh... I now get what you were doing. Yeah, that's plenty of info to get a HJT log pulled and posted.

Anyone who wants to learn to understand the logs themselves, those are the places to go, but if your just looking to make a log for people to evaluate, thats my tutorial.

That was my purpose I never meant to teach everything, I guess i shouldnt have named it [b]Full]/b] Tutorial

That would be too much for one article. It's much better to split it up into readable chunks.

Plus, this is enough to enable people to post their HJT logs for people to assist them with.

One clarification about the placement of HJT files. It's should be placed (downloaded) to its own folder. For example, you do not want to save it to your desktop.

Heck ya! Well, the user will do the work but we'll give them some direction.

It's my hope and expectation that we'll be able to do more and more for computer users as PC101 matures!
